But then you get to Exodus chapter 31! In it, God reveals information that demonstrates that He has thought of everything. Specifically, He chooses two individuals, (Bezalel & Oholiab) to oversee the entire project. He says that He will give to Bezalel "the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts". He then goes on to say "Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you" [added emphasis mine]. God does something amazing: He takes a ragtag bunch of former slaves and makes them craftsmen! He lays a special task before them, and then specially (and supernaturally!) equips them to fulfill the task.
How does that fit with what we talked about on Sunday...you being the right person for the job(s) to which God has called you?? Well, the Bible is clear on this point: God is still in the business of specially equipping His people to complete amazing tasks! (See Ephesians 4:7-13 for a great NT passage on this.) And consider this too: In the Old Testament, God's Spirit filling an individual (as He did for Bezalel) was a relatively rare occurrence and even His giving of skills seems to be to a select group of people. But our present reality is that all of us who have put our faith in Christ have been given the Holy Spirit and have been specially equipped to build up the Body of Christ! We have a diversity of gifts all aimed at fulfilling a unified purpose. Know this: God will not call upon you to fulfill a task for which you are unequipped! That is amazingly encouraging! In your own way, you are a highly skilled craftsperson, perfectly equipped to do the thing(s) that God wants you to do in His Body!
