I thought about this when reflecting on the closing verses of Ephesians chapter 3. The Apostle Paul writes in verse 20, "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…" I love the way Paul piles up words to really give a sense of the immensity of what he's saying here! God's power is vast! With it, He is able to do anything that we might ask. And not just ask, but even imagine. And in fact, He can do even more than that! And it's not just that He could do more than we could possibly imagine...He can do immeasurably more! There is no way to truly quantify the magnitude of God's power. That doesn't mean that God will do everything we ask or imagine. But if He chooses not to, it's certainly not because He lacks ability! Think of the grandest, craziest, most impossible task you could possibly imagine. Now consider that God can so far beyond that, you couldn't measure it. That's incredible! Which is why Paul offers this word of praise here...a doxology.
But in the midst of this doxology, Paul sneaks in 2 little Greek words which translate into 2 little English words: "within us". That vast power of God resides in us, because God Himself resides in us. When you put your faith in Jesus Christ, you were immediately inhabited by the Holy Spirit. And that power is currently at work inside of you. What an amazing fact! Now, how does that impact how you view your day's activities or your seemingly insurmountable problems??
