What is a Berean? What does Berean mean?

In Acts 17, during Paul’s trip preaching the gospel and planting churches, he visits a city in Greece called Berea.

The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men.

Acts 17: 10-12

The Bible describes these Bereans as being of “more noble” character because they received Paul’s message with eagerness, but it also says that they examined the scriptures every day to make sure that what Paul taught was true.

We strive for that today at Berean Bible Church. We want to engage with God’s word every single day to make sure that we know it well, and to make sure that what is taught and preached here is correct.
